Abstract
In his philosophy and science, Rene Descartes was able to construct a world so capacious that anyone who studies his ideas well can live there—can acquire a unique understanding of our common world by examining it from his perspective. The community of scholars inhabiting the Cartesian world is now more than 350 years old. Each generation, in its distinctive way, discovers new resources in Descartes's world and makes its own contribution to our understanding of it. The present book is rich with such contributions, at once expressive of the present moment in scholarship and of the immutable natures specified by the Cartesian text.
